Welcome

Welcome! Following six successful International Research Seminars and Conferences on Salutogenesis, the Society for Theory and Research on Salutogenesis (STARS), the IUHPE Global Working Group on Salutogenesis and the Medical University of Lodz are pleased to invite you to participate in the Seventh International Conference on Salutogenesis, which will be held on June 19-20,2024 in Lodz.  

Salutogenesis is the concept of the origin of health rather than disease. Developed by Aaron Antonovsky (1979, 1987), the concept focuses on strengthening individual and social resources that protect and actively promote health. In essence, Salutogenesis is concerned with creating coherent living environments, strengthening socio-ecological health resources as well as strengthening the sense of coherence of individuals and groups.  

Aims and target group of the interactive conference: 

  • Share and discuss innovative approaches to crises and everyday life as opportunities for salutogenic transformation  
  • Advance Salutogenesis-related theory, research and practice within and beyond health(care) 
  • (Re-) connect with and learn from the international network of scientist and practitioners in Salutogenesis including Early Career investigators in their first 8 years after completing a PhD and students (PhD and MA levels) 

Conference themes: Much has been said regarding the numerous challenges of the various social, ecological and economic crises we face both on local and global levels. Salutogenesis suggests exploring how such crises, but also our everyday life experiences across the life course provide opportunities for transformation. Thus, with the call for papers we invited Salutogenesis-related papers combining the following three dimensions of transformation

  • Themes of transformation: growth & identity, social ease and cohesion (e.g. migration, diversity, inter-generational), education & learning, digitalisation, everyday living resources (e.g. food, transport, housing, architecture), planetary health, other 
  • Levels of transformation: Individuals, community/settings, (inter-) national, politics, other 
  • Interdisciplinary support of transformation: Theory development, innovative interventions & movements, implementation & evaluation research, other 

Interactive conference – 100 international presenters: The international conference on Salutogenesis offers a highly interactive format with strong involvement of all participants. We accepted about 100 abstracts closely related to Salutogenesis. They have been grouped into 12 thematic sessions, 7 workshops and 3 poster sessions each highlighting diverse areas of application and of advancement of the concept of Salutogenesis. Half a day of the conference is dedicated to a program developed by a committee of early career researchers. Let yourself be surprised and inspired by the Salutogenic Rebels! In all sessions, we dedicate a lot of time for discussion with the audience. So, even when you don’t present, you will be able to actively join discussion of the current trends in theory, research and implementation of Salutogenesis with colleagues from all over the world.
